Sowing Seeds of Hope for Our Food System

Just as a farmer can raise an abundance of fruits and vegetables from a handful of tiny seeds, one person can help cultivate a more healthy, just, and sustainable food system by spreading a message of hope in their community. The Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee is seeking community members from all walks of life who would like to help us cultivate change by joining the "Sowing Seeds of Hope for Our Food System" training program.

Participants in the Sowing Seeds of Hope program will attend one 2.5 hour training session to learn how to introduce the concept of food security to the community, raise awareness about the existence of food insecurity in Middle Tennessee, highlight groups/programs working to increase food security, and help people understand what they can do to promote food security in their community. During the training session, participants will explore how their own experiences and expertise connect with food security issues. If you are a farmer, gardener, parent, teacher, person of faith, cook, food lover, environmentalist, health professional, or concerned citizen, you have a unique and important perspective on food security to share with your community!

Trainees will be asked to assist with at least one community outreach activity in the six month period following their training. This activity may consist of speaking to a church, school, or community group, hosting a food security house party, or staffing a Food Security Partners booth at an outreach event. Trainees will be connected by an e-listserv where they can learn about speaking opportunities and share their successes.

Training sessions are free and are limited to 20 participants per session.
