Making Uncommon Connections within the Food System

When we work together we are truly greater than the sum of our parts. A core goal of the Food Security Partners is to catalyze community partnerships of diverse stakeholders working together to build a healthy, just, and sustainable food system.

Veggie Project

In the summer of 2007, three Boys and Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee had farmers' markets offering fresh, locally grown fruits and vegetables to children and families made possible through a collaboration of the Food Security Partners, Monroe Carell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt Children's Health Improvement and Prevention, Nashville Urban Harvest, Baptist Healing Trust, and the Vanderbilt Center for Health Services. The program will continue in summer 2008.

Local Table: A Guide to Food and Farming in Middle Tennessee

Where do you go if you want to eat locally grown food? What are the benefits to you, our environment, and society if you decide to eat Tennessee grown products? Answers to these questions and many more are highlighted in the inaugural issue of "Local Table," a publication that was developed in part by connections made through the Food Security Partners of Middle Tennessee.   Grab a print copy of "Local Table" by visiting area grocery stores and farmers' markets or connect online at www.localtable.net.

The Food Security Partners is a project of the Vanderbilt Institute for
Public Policy Studies and is funded by the
generous support of the community.
